South Hampton
Approximately 2200 SF, this 14’ tall white brick, single story, primary residence is nestled into and enveloped by the landscape. Like a stone half buried in a field, hinting at more beneath the surface, this elemental expression of form honors the site and its context. The texture and dynamism of the forest is overwhelming, in a completely beautiful sense. The house is meant as a contrast to this, a pause, a rest, a place for the eye to fall and find stillness. Outwardly telegraphing the interior atmosphere awaiting you.
In a dialogue between the 1790’s Georgian residence and itself, the white brick volumes are based upon the classic proportions of the Golden Ratio. The mixture of forest and meadow will be maintained, while the new home located on a cleared section of the property, will not impose its self upon, but will respond to the land. A part of; not apart from.
Honesty of form, restrained materials and limited impact on the land are the core principles of this project.
